Gas fire installation
Whether you are replacing an old gas fire or fitting a new fire and surround, we install it safely and neatly. One customer, j walsh, had a gas fire and surround fitted by Steve and was impressed by his prompt start, tidiness and politeness, and that he hoovered up after he had finished.
Before fitting, the engineer checks the chimney or flue, the hearth and the ventilation the fire needs. After fitting, the fire is tested, including a check that the flue is clearing fumes safely.
Gas fire servicing
Gas fires need regular checks just like boilers. Gas Safe Register recommends that gas appliances are safety-checked and serviced once a year. We offer meticulous inspection and maintenance of gas fires so they run safely and efficiently.
Warning signs that a gas fire needs attention include a lazy yellow or orange flame instead of a crisp blue one, sooty or dark staining on or around the fire, and a pilot light that keeps going out. If you notice these, stop using the fire and have it checked.
Gas cooker and hob installation
By law, gas cookers and hobs must be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We install and connect new gas cookers and hobs, including running new gas pipework where it is needed. Sally Burns mentioned in her review that Ben connected a new gas pipe to her hob despite the hard to reach location.
Once connected, the engineer tests the cooker and the gas supply for leaks and checks that each burner lights and burns correctly. A freestanding cooker on a flexible hose should also be secured with a stability bracket or chain so it cannot tip forward.
Carbon monoxide safety
Any gas appliance that is not burning properly can produce carbon monoxide. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, collapse and loss of consciousness. An audible carbon monoxide alarm in rooms with a gas appliance gives early warning.
If you smell gas, open doors and windows, turn off the gas at the meter if you can, do not use electrical switches or naked flames, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

What customers say
“We have just had a gas fire and surround fitted by Steve from Heatsource. We were extremely impressed by his prompt start, tidiness, politeness and even hoovered up after he had finished! We are extremely pleased with the finished product and will be asking him back to do other jobs. We would highly recommend this company.”
“We had a new combi boiler fitted in our kitchen and our old boiler taken out of a bedroom by Steve and Ben. They were very professional throughout and made sure work areas were protected beforehand. They got straight on with the job and cleaned up after themselves when finished. Ben also connected a new gas pipe to our hob and did a great job despite the hard to reach location! Would highly recommend Steve and Ben for any gas related work.”

How often should a gas fire be serviced?
Once a year. Gas Safe Register recommends an annual safety check and service for every gas appliance, including gas fires.
