Annual Boiler Servicing in North Manchester

A yearly service keeps your boiler safe, efficient and reliable. Heatsource Domestic Gas Services services boilers for homeowners and landlords across North Manchester: we inspect, clean, safety-check and fine-tune your boiler for peak performance.

Why service your boiler every year

Gas Safe Register recommends that gas appliances are safety-checked and serviced once a year. A service can catch a worn part or a small leak before it becomes a breakdown in the middle of winter.

A poorly maintained boiler can also produce carbon monoxide, which has no colour, taste or smell. Regular servicing, along with an audible carbon monoxide alarm, is the best protection.

Many boiler manufacturers also require an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer to keep the warranty valid, so check your paperwork and keep your service records.

What a service includes

Every boiler is different, but a service typically covers:

  • A visual check of the boiler, its casing, seals and the flue, inside and outside
  • Checking the gas pressure and how the boiler burns, so it runs safely and efficiently
  • Cleaning key components and checking for corrosion, wear and leaks
  • Testing the safety devices and the controls
  • Checking the system pressure and the condensate pipe on a condensing boiler
  • Talking you through anything we find and what, if anything, needs doing next

Signs your boiler needs attention now

Do not wait for the annual service if you notice a lazy yellow or orange flame instead of a crisp blue one, dark staining on or around the boiler, a pilot light that keeps going out, or more condensation than usual on the windows. These can be signs of an appliance that is not burning safely.

Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, collapse and loss of consciousness. If you suspect carbon monoxide, turn off the appliance, get fresh air, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

Looking after the rest of the system

Over the years, sludge and debris build up inside a heating system. They can leave radiators cold at the bottom, make the boiler noisy and wear out its parts. A power flush clears the system, and a magnetic filter, such as the Adey MagnaClean in our photos, catches debris before it reaches the boiler.

Booking a service

Call 07890 100746 to book. We service boilers alongside the rest of your heating: if the system needs a power flush, a magnetic filter, new thermostatic radiator valves or a smart thermostat, we can quote for that too.

Landlords can have the boiler serviced at the same visit as the annual gas safety check. See our landlord gas safety certificate page for what the law requires.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a boiler be serviced?

Once a year. Gas Safe Register recommends an annual safety check and service for gas appliances, and many manufacturers require one to keep the boiler warranty valid.

How much does a boiler service cost?

We give free, no-obligation quotes. Call 07890 100746 and tell us the make and model of your boiler.

Is a boiler service the same as a gas safety check?

No. A gas safety check confirms an appliance is safe to use. A service goes further: the engineer also cleans and adjusts the boiler so it runs efficiently. Landlords need the safety check by law, and many book a service at the same visit.

Do you service gas fires as well as boilers?

Yes. We inspect and maintain gas fires as well as boilers. See our gas fires and cookers page.

What is a magnetic filter, and do I need one?

A magnetic filter is fitted on the heating pipework near the boiler and catches the iron sludge that circulates in the system, so it cannot clog the boiler. It is emptied as part of a service. We fit magnetic filters and carry out power flushes.

Are your engineers Gas Safe registered?

Yes. All of our work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers, and we are fully insured.
